Gilang Propagila
Social and community organizer, also an environmental campaigner in Bali. Zine archiver and stuff that related to Hardcore Punk subculture. Gilang works with many communities and NGO’s in Bali, and He uses art as a tool to do anything.
Most of his artwork is influenced by the counter-culture of the Hardcore Punk and the dynamics of activism in Bali. Gilang is the founder of DIS-PRINT CULTURE: a mobile printing group based in Bali that is interested in sharing discourses on the use of art for social and environmental movements. Gilang is also one of the organizers of the big social movement in Bali called Bali Tolak Reklamasi. Gilang believes that visual arts can be a mood booster that can create a happier atmosphere towards better social and personal change. His protest posters have been used in several march demonstrations to fight the greedy tourism that destroys Bali’s nature.
Gilang has exhibited and shared his work in Tokyo, Taipei, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Jakarta, Pati, Surabaya, Malang, and Bali. Currently, Gilang hosting a weekly streaming radio show called Punk As Fuck and Cassette Not Dead to stream archives of Hardcore Punk tapes and then discuss the critical discourse that is developing within the punk community.
